Front Wheel Camber

Nov 09, 2023

When looking at the wheels from the front and rear directions, the tires are not installed vertically, but are slightly tilted and open in an "eight" shape, which is called negative outward tilt. When opening in the opposite direction, it is called positive outward tilt. During the heyday of using diagonal tires, the camber angle was set relatively high due to the convenience of tilting the tires and touching the ground for steering wheel operation. Cars generally set their camber angle very small, close to vertical. The use of flat radial tires in automobiles is becoming increasingly popular. Due to the characteristics of radial tires (such as high tire pattern rigidity and wide outer tread), setting a large camber angle can cause the tire to wear out and reduce tire friction. Also, due to the continuous use of power steering mechanisms, the camber angle continues to decrease. However, setting a slight camber angle can apply appropriate lateral thrust to the wheel bearings on the axle.
